Kathleen Martin, LCSW

I am a clinical social worker in private practice in Rochester, New York.  As an EMDR Certified Therapist and a Certified EMDR Consultant and Trainer, I am highly experienced working with PTSD and trauma.  I am well known for my deep caring and dedication to helping people heal from their emotional pain.  I often say my job is to work myself out of a job.  This means I want everyone I work with to fully heal so they may thrive, be completely contented and enjoy deeply satisfying relationships.  I have successfully helped many people reach this quality of life.

I started my career in the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect.  I  loved this work and found it satisfying to have an impact on ending the cycle of humans hurting humans.  After 10 years, funding changed and I moved into clinical work.  I started my private practice with a specialty in treating eating disorders.  In 1995 I trained in EMDR and expanded my area of expertise into treating PTSD, trauma and dissociation.  I use the word “trauma” to include both the overwhelming “large” traumas that can happen such as car accidents, abuse, military and sexual traumas, loss of loved ones, etc., as well as the “smaller” traumas that happen such as criticisms, break-ups, humiliations, attachment loss, feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem.

I maintain a counseling practice for individual psychotherapy and a consulting practice to teach and pass on my knowledge and expertise to other clinicians.
