Advancing Excellence in Treating Complex Trauma

Presented by Kathleen Martin, LCSW

November 14, 2019

Yellowknife, NT, Canada

8:45 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.

Description

Treating complex trauma is complicated. This one day workshop will review key concepts and then delineate specific steps necessary to treat complex trauma efficiently and effectively. A partial list of the steps includes: increasing positive affect tolerance; accessing, identifying and working with parts of the personality; treating dissociative phobias; treating dissociative cognitive errors; time orientation; and reprocessing the maladaptively stored information. Case examples will be used to demonstrate the implementation of these steps.

Objectives

1.     Define non-realization

2.     Give 2 examples of non-personification

3.     Explain why increasing positive affect tolerance is the first step in treating dissociation

4.     State 3 factors that indicate that a client is ready for exposure to the traumatic material
